MPW Birmingham is part of the MPW group of independent fifth- and sixth-form colleges founded in London in 1973. The Birmingham college was opened in 1980 and was the first of its kind in the West Midlands. The college's attractive, Victorian buildings are located in Edgbaston, only a few minutes from the city centre and the university.

The college is fully co-educational and accepts up to 160 students each year preparing for GCSE, A level and Oxbridge Entrance. We provide both one-year and two-year courses over a broad range of subjects and there are no restrictions on subject combinations. For those retaking, we provide short courses starting in either September or January or one-year courses starting in September.

Pupils generally enter Mayfield into our Pre Nursery at the beginning of the Autumn Term (September) and the Spring Term (January) at the age of 2+. They then progress to Nursery where they complete three full terms before moving into Main School. Sometimes however, places may become available in other year groups, allowing entry to the school throughout the academic year.

Norfolk House School has a history which spans more than seventy years. Originally called Garry House School, it was located in Fountain Road, Edgbaston. It moved to its present location in 1963 and was re-founded in 1967 as Norfolk House School.

The School is now owned by the Challinor family, a member of which has been present on the board of directors since 1967.

St. George’s School, Edgbaston opened in September 1999 as Birmingham’s first Independent School to offer a complete education to both boys and girls between the ages of 2½ and 18. Formed from the merger of Edgbaston College for Girls and the predominantly boys Edgbaston College, both of which had enjoyed over 100 years of education in their own right. Occupying the Georgian buildings of the former girls’ school in the spacious grounds of the Calthorpe Estate, with close proximity to Birmingham city centre, the school has been substantially modernised with new buildings to meet expanding educational needs and developments. Parents are also encouraged to play an active role in the life of the school through our friendly and active Parent Teacher Association.

St Thomas’s Community Network is a community learning centre, registered as a charity, with a brief to develop education, training and community activities in an informal setting. The constitution dates back to 1990, although it had started locally before that. In the charitable objects it states that our aims are to develop the capacity and skills of members of the community, in such a way that they are able to participate more fully in society.
